For the last few years all of us had been caught by reports of meritorious students doing brilliantly in various public examinations but unable to continue further due to their financial deprivation. One would top the list of Medical Entrance Examination with his father running a tea stall, while another would score more than 80% marks in Higher Secondary and unable to make the ends meet by working in a Bidi manufacturing unit, the list continues unending. Newspaper reports resulted in some angel of a person calling up the newspaper office willing to take up the cost of a particular student to continue his study. The efforts were neither organized and nor addressed the complex economic issues of financial dispossession. From this void came the thought of building an organization that will cater to all the needs of poor meritorious students of West Bengal. This dream took a concrete shape and Eso Kichu Kori (EKK) was born as a registered Society under the West Bengal Societies Act in February 2007. |
